Well, it's time for me to put myself back on top of everyone's blog list, but I don't really have a whole lot to say. So how about a complaint? Now that the Olympics are over, there's nothing good on TV! Men's synchronized diving or trampolining or Olympic walking are so much more entertaining than "America's Favorite Dog" or whatever other dumb reality show is on. I guess I could just turn off the TV and read a book (I do have a lot to choose from now :) ... or I could exercise... or do a number of other more productive things.
So we bid Janet farewell a few days ago. I'd like everyone to know that before she left, we played Boggle and I won. Oh yeah--I still got it. I'd also like everyone to know that when I hugged Janet goodbye, she got a little teary. But I can't blame her--I would hate saying goodbye to me too. :)
By the way, in case you were wondering about the title, it's one of the vocabulary words I learned from the book I'm currently reading. I think it describes this post rather well.
So, let me know if you have anything specific you would like me to post about because I'm having a hard time thinking of anything interesting. Maybe watching too much TV has dulled my creative juices...

Me + Lots of Books + Very Cheap = Dangerous
So, I went a little crazy at the library's semi-annual book sale this weekend. Mom and I went down on Saturday, which was "all the books you can fit in a bag for $5" day. I filled up my bag pretty quickly and borrowed some space in Mom's, ending with a grand total of 73 books! (In case you're wondering, that comes out to less than 7 cents per book.) I thought the selection would be crummy, but they're all good ones! I found lots of treasures from my childhood, like this one:

And this one, which all Scoresby children should remember fondly:
As soon as we got home, I spread all my books out on the floor in categories. This is what it looked like:
Then, I made a list of all the books. The categories were as follows: Christmas; Children's; Young Adult (Sub-category: Newbury Award Winners - I want to collect all of them); Classics; Poetry; and Others. I thought about publishing my list of books so you could all be amazed at the awesomeness of the event, but I am informed that others may not get as excited as I do about books. I even got some good piano music:
There's only one small problem with all these books...we don't exactly have a place to put them and I will not demean my treasures by keeping them in a box in the garage. They deserve to be displayed. We'll just have to do some bookshelf shuffling and possibly bookshelf purchasing. It totally made my weekend and I'm already gearing up for the next one in November...
P.S. I'm a nerd (just in case you didn't pick it up from this post). I just now realized that you can upload as many pictures as you want at one time. The whole time I've been blogging, I've uploaded one picture at a time. Duh, Emily.
P.P.S. I have close up pictures of the different categories of books if anyone's interested. I could also send you my list if you're dying to see it. Just let me know.

It only happens once a year...
The Wisconsin Valley Fair, that is! We had a great time at the fair on Saturday, although Preston got kind of annoyed because I kept talking about how it wasn't as great as the Knox County Fair. Well, it's true. But we had fun anyway and here are some pictures of our adventures.
Me and a cow. I like cows. I'm not sure why this one was just sitting out in the open--maybe it was sick--but don't worry, I didn't get too close.
We went to this "Gourmet" Cooking show. It turned out to be a ridiculously long advertisement for locally made, locally overpriced waterless cookware.
The sign should have been a dead giveaway. But we stuck around because he promised to give away one of the chopper things in the above picture and I wanted it. I didn't get it. I still have to catch on to the whole theory of "you get what you pay for," because I'm a cheapskate and I'm proud of it. But that's a topic for another post...
This next one's for Joanna. The duck was shy. He (or she) waddled to the back of the cage when I tried to take a picture.
Preston nonchalantly enjoying some fried cheese curds.
And the main attraction...
Come on, you have to admit you know all their songs from the Saturday night Oldies show we all listened to on the way home from Stake dances. We took a video for Carl. Ironically, the song we thought was video worthy was not even a Herman's Hermits song...but it was a fun show.
I know you're probably amazed by the extreme amount of entertainment offered at the Wisconsin Valley Fair, but there's more that we didn't even get pictures of! Like my AWESOME black cherry ice cream cone, Preston's lengthy conversation with the man who offered us a free two-question test to tell us if we were going to heaven, and the picture the National Guard took of us in front of Dale Earnhardt's car. Unfortunately, you have to give them all your information to get the picture and then they don't even let you copy it. I bet if it was in Knox County, they would...

We're Back!
We didn't actually go anywhere. I just took a brief hiatus from posting. We got kind of busy, and I've been dealing with a wicked case of poison ivy (I won't post pictures, you're welcome). But back whenever I posted last, I promised you a post on what Preston's been up, so here goes:
Preston completed his first triathlon yesterday! Maybe he will come on and provide one of his rare posts to tell you about it, so I'll just share the pictures.
What a hunk.
He wanted a picture of his leg muscles too.
Here they are getting ready to jump in the lake. Can you tell which one is Preston? (Hint: he's the white one who's not wearing Spandex.)
Here he is in the transition to bike area.
And taking off on his 28-mile bike ride.
And now he's off on the 10-K run.
I'll leave it to Preston to philosophize on the whole experience, but he did a great job, especially for it being his first triathlon, and doing the long course no less!
Well, that's probably enough pictures for one day, but don't worry - you won't have to wait two more weeks for the next post, because the triathlon was only one part of an extremely exciting weekend, so stay tuned!
